It’s a quiet and still December morning. The tree line that I have watched for weeks has finally shed every leaf and now stands stark against the horizon. The winter season is very close and these trees are ready. These two final images each consist of three exposures with a 10 degree shift to the left and right of centre – combined in post-processing and yielding a 7×17 inch print on Epson Cold Press Natural paper.

I enjoy making images with strong horizontal and vertical elements – a return to my days of using 4×5 and 5×7 view cameras. In this recent photograph taken in Carleton Place, I used a tilt-shift lens to create a panoramic image. I made three images by shifting the lens 10mm to both the right and left while using 2° of tilt to ensure sharpness in the foreground. When using a tilt-shift lens, I always attach the camera to a tripod.
Photographed using a Canon 5D Mark II camera and the TS-E 45mm lens.
