Long Beach, Pacific Rim National Park

Early morning on two days spent at Long Beach near Tofino, Vancouver Island, BC. I don’t think that there is a better way to start your day than a walk on this magnificent stretch of beach in the Pacific Rim National Park. The sounds, sights and smells of the ocean on kilometers of open beach are there for you to enjoy in perfect solitude.

Surfin’ in Tofino…

Well, not quite….

Woke to a rainy day in Tofino with a heavy surf. Packed the camera gear and wandered to the beach to watch the surf. Having just taken a weekend Long Exposure workshop with Michael Levin in Victoria, I decided to try the technique on the waves pounding against the rocks. As it was raining, I used my rain coat to cover the camera gear and got truly soaked – love it.
I spent almost 3 hours photographing at several spots. Of all the images, this image captured the mood of that day the best.
It’s true, the worst day out making photographs is better than the best day working at your desk.
