Charters Creek Salmon Habitat Restoration and Interpretive Centre, Sooke BC

The new Interpretive Centre at Charters Creek near Sooke is a beautiful cedar structure – the wood just seems to glow in the early morning light.

The water level in the creek was low in August. However, I took the time to set up the camera and spent some time photographing in the area. The forest was still and there was enough water flow to hear the sound of trickling water in the creek. I moved the camera to several locations to try and capture the cathedral-like quiet of the forest and the reflection of the trees in the moving water.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse, Shirley BC

Late afternoon image of Sheringham Point Lighthouse (not far from Sooke) on a very bright August afternoon.  I wanted to soften the wave action a little and also capture the swirls in the clouds. I tried several exposures with a polarizing filter before deciding to use a neutral density filter which allowed a slower shutter speed of 11 seconds.

Photographed with a Canon 5D Mark II, 24-70 f2.8L, 11 seconds at f20 using a grey 3,0 neutral density filter (x 10 stop exposure). Image converted to B&W using Silver Efex Pro2.
